Education

Education Department

The Education Department supports the education of Tribal youth from pre-kindergarten through the transition into college or other post-high school options. Through the support from tribal headquarters and the TANF office (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), the Washoe Tribe is able to place educational liaisons and support staff into the public schools to provide additional support for the native youth. The Educational staff communicates and collaborates with students, parents, school staff, outside educational agencies and health services and encourages family and community involvement in the education of their children. In addition to onsite school support, other ongoing programs include after school tutoring, mentoring, work-experience, summer enrichment programs, credit recovery, and pre-college advising.

Below is a roster of the Washoe Educational Department. Feel free to contact the appropriate Washoe liaison at your respective school site for any additional questions and/or support.

Additionally, the Washoe Tribe Education Department will soon provide this information in electronic format.

The three scholarships currently available are:

Please click here for more information

It is important to realize that both of the BIA grants require the student to seek all other sources of funding before BIA scholarships are awarded. This means that the student must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which generates a student aid report and tells whether you are considered low income. You can complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov or get help from someone at your high school or college. Your college financial aid officer will help you complete the FAFSA and many other scholarship packets available for that particular school.

All of these Tribal scholarships are post high school. In other words, the student must show high school completion before they qualify for this money. These scholarships are awarded only to Washoe Tribal enrolled members who meet all scholarship qualifications.
