Waste Management

Solid Waste

Community Cleanup

Twice a year, the Washoe Environmental Protection Department (WEPD) in a joint effort with the residents, hold trash and hazardous waste cleanups for the Stewart, Carson, Dresslerville, and Woodfords communities.  WEPD pays special attention to assisting the elders with these cleanups.   Generally, the conservation crew will come around to elder residents and remove solid waste items.  In some communities dumpsters will be used for solid waste collection and removal. The WEPD encourages participation in these cleanups from members of each community.

WEPD discourages residents from allowing trash to accumulate throughout the year.  Doing so, can attract rodents and may pollute the drinking water.

Recyclable items are recycled.  Items including appliances, scrap metal, tires, and automobiles can be recycled as part of our auto/metal recycling project.  Household hazardous waste can be recycled separately during community cleanups; it must be labeled or the contents identified.  Other items such as electronics and computer equipment can be recycled as well.

Please call 265-8680 or 265-8686 if you have any questions about community cleanups.
