The Washoe Housing Authority (WHA) is a Tribal Designated Housing Entity established by the Washoe Tribe of NV & CA to administer the Housing Program funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Authority is organized and operating for the purposes of: Remedying unsafe and unsanitary housing conditions that are injurious to public health, safety and morals. Alleviating the acute shortage of decent, safe, and sanitary dwellings for persons of low income. Providing employment opportunities through the construction, reconstruction, improvement, extension, alteration or repair and operation of low income dwellings. WHA currently operates two homeownership programs and a low-rent program. These programs are administered throughout the Carson Community, Dresslerville Community, Stewart Community and the Woodfords Community. WHA also provides opportunities for Tribal members to obtain mortgage lending to build and/or repair their homes from various financial lending institutions. In addition, WHA provides down-payment assistance to eligible Tribal members for the purchase of a home, which can be utilized within both Nevada and California. WHA has established a Tenant Based Assistance Rental program that is administered in the states of Nevada and California to promote the safe and secure housing for Washoe Tribal members. Please contact the Washoe Housing Authority at (775) 265-2410 to obtain more information on the programs and assistance.
