Image It is the mission of the Washoe Tribe Police Department to safeguard the lives and property of the people we serve, to reduce the incidence and fear of crime, and to enhance public safety while working with the Washoe Communities to improve their quality of life. Our mandate is to perform with honor and integrity by conducting ourselves with the highest ethical standards to maintain public confidence.

The Police Department is staffed with a Captain, a Sergeant, eight Police Officers, a Law Enforcement Administrative Officer, two Environmental Rangers and an Animal Control Officer. The Department provides law enforcement services to four Washoe Tribal communities split between Nevada and California, as well as patrolling the Pine Nut Allotment land. The Police Department shares law enforcement responsibilities for the Woodfords Community with the Alpine County Sheriff’s Department.

In addition to patrolling efforts to deter criminal activity, the department conducts investigations of crimes, responds to calls for assistance, enforces traffic regulations on tribal property, investigates automobile crashes, and affects the arrest of individuals involved in criminal activity. The Environmental Rangers are charged with the development and enforcement of environmental ordinances.
