Washoe Finance Department Print E-mail

The Finance Department is a team of dedicated professionals who serve the Washoe Tribe and its staff by keeping the books and records of the Tribe. Finance staff work with the Tribal Council, community councils and tribal programs to develop budgets, monitor financial progress, and identify funding sources for projects. Our goal is to work collaboratively with our customers to build financial capacity throughout the tribal government organization.

Financial Information and Compliance. The Finance Department provides regular reports to Tribal Council, community councils and program staff reflecting the status of the Tribe’s financial position. We also provide compliance reporting to funding agencies and entities such as the Internal Revenue Service. The Tribe’s financial transactions adhere to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (“GAAP”), the Government Accounting Standards, and O.M.B. Circular A-133. Our records are subject to audit each year by an independent CPA firm selected by the Tribal Council.

Cash Management. The Finance Department issues all payments for the tribe, and receives all cash coming in. We maintain a public service counter to accept payment of water bills, traffic citations, animal licenses and various other payments. We monitor the tribe’s bank accounts to make sure that sufficient cash is on hand to cover obligations. The Finance Department makes sure that all expenditures conform to appropriate government regulations, grant and contract provisions, and the Tribe’s Policies and Procedures.
